Sustainable cooking and saving energy

Save energy

Traditional cooking consumes a lot of energy. According to the Klimaatgids, cooking even uses the most energy of all your household appliances and as much as your electric water heater. https://www.klimaatgids.nl/energieverbruik/overzicht-energieverbruik-van-apparatuur

An oven consumes an average of 100 kWh (€23/year) and an electric hob 500 kWh (€115/year). Ecostoven makes cooking more energy-efficient. You briefly heat up the food and then let the EcoStoof® do its work. This not only saves 30% energy, but you also save your wallet and your own energy: just sit back while your food cooks itself! We have calculated that you can save approximately 30% of your energy costs for cooking with the EcoStoof®. Good for the environment, and with current energy prices, you will have earned back the purchase of an EcoStoof® in one year.

Sustainable cooking

Did you know that our food accounts for 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions annually? Per dinner, this amounts to 1690 grams of CO2 emissions.

The average CO2eq emission of a dinner for the average Dutch person is 1690 grams. This data was obtained from the food consumption survey (VCP) from 2012-2016 and from calculations in a report by Ekomenu

According to the Sustainable Development Goals*, we need to reduce CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030. So, your dinner is future-proof if it causes a maximum of 930 grams of CO2 emissions. Your EcoStoof® helps with this!

*Sustainable Development Goals are global goals of the United Nations (UN) for sustainable development to end extreme poverty, inequality, injustice, and climate change. The 193 member states of the United Nations (UN) adopted this development agenda for 2015 – 2030. They apply in all countries and for all people.

Save CO2 with the EcoStoof®

With the EcoStoof®, you contribute to a future-proof meal. You save an average of 240 grams of CO2 per meal. That is a contribution of 35% to a future-proof meal!

Future-proof ingredients

In addition to using the EcoStoof®, we have more tips to make your meal sustainable and future-proof:

  • Eat organic: Organic agricultural soils are capable of storing CO2. This means that organic crops release 40% less emissions than conventional agriculture. In addition, no chemical pesticides and artificial fertilizers are used.
  • Choose local: Our food often travels a long way before it reaches our plates. A regular can of tomato paste travels around the world once. Check the label to see where your food comes from.
  • Eat seasonally: By eating seasonally, you choose local products: fresh, healthy, and with fewer food miles and storage.
  • Choose plant-based more often: More than 60% of all food-related CO2 emissions are caused by animal products.

Hay box of the 21st century

Traditional Cuisine, Modernly Rediscovered

The EcoStoof® brings the age-old technique of the hay box into the 21st century. The principle is as simple as it is brilliant: briefly bring your dish to a boil, place the pot in the high-quality insulated EcoStoof®, and let the residual heat do the work. Your meal will continue to cook on its own — without gas, electricity, or constant supervision.

Step-by-step: From fire to table

  1. Prepare your dish: Add your ingredients and bring everything to a boil on your stove.
  2. Remove the pot from the heat: As soon as the dish is thoroughly hot, turn off the heat source. The pot now contains enough energy to continue cooking itself.
  3. Place the pot: Lay a (protective) cloth in the EcoStoof® and place the hot pot on it. Wrap the cloth around the pot to protect the inside.
  4. Close the insulation: Pull the cords tightly so that the insulation fits snugly.
  5. Let it rest: The EcoStoof® will now do the work.
    - Rice, fish, vegetables: 30–60 minutes.
    - Stew and beans: Several hours (for more than 3 hours, briefly reheat in between).
  6. Serve and enjoy: Remove the pot from the cooker (be careful: it is still very hot!) and enjoy a meal full of flavor.

The technology behind the heat

Insulation like a warm winter coat

The EcoStoof® works like a high-quality ski jacket for your pan. Thanks to our patented layers, the heat remains trapped for hours, allowing your food to cook slowly and evenly at a low temperature.

  • EcoThermFill®: Filling of recycled textile fibers for maximum thermal barrier.
  • EcoStoof Thermoshield®: An innovative layer that reflects infrared heat back into the pan.
  • Durable base: Equipped with insulating cork and recycled vegan felt (ReFelt).

Why cook with the EcoStoof®?

  • More peace of mind: You don't have to stay by the fire. Your food cannot burn or boil over.
  • Healthier: Due to the low temperature, vitamins and minerals are better preserved.
  • Save immediately: Reduce your energy consumption during cooking by an average of 30%.
  • Cook anywhere: Ideal for the kitchen, but also for camping, on the boat or during a picnic.

Practical Tips & Safety

  • Which pan? Your own pans are fine (stainless steel, cast iron or enamel). The EcoStoof® is suitable for pans up to 100°C. Please note: pans used for deep-frying are too hot and can damage the lining.
  • Protection: Always use a tea towel or the special EcoStoof® protective cloth to prevent stains on the lining.
  • Safety: Does your dish stay in the slow cooker for longer than 5 hours? Reheat it to at least 70°C before serving.
